In case any of you have heard about the typhoon currently making it's way through Tokyo, this is an update to let you know that I'm fine. I only worked half a day at school today. Afternoon classes were canceled on account of the typhoon and my co-worker gave me a ride home so that I wouldn't have to take the train in the pouring rain and wind. I'm currently weathering out the typhoon in my apartment. The strength of the rain and wind is a bit scary at times, but I'm safe inside. The typhoon should pass through my area tonight and tomorrow should be back to life as usual.
This past weekend was a three day weekend because Monday was Respect for the Aged Day. On Saturday, Akiko-sensei invited me to an afternoon barbecue at her house. I met her husband and her cute 7 year-old daughter. She also invited my predecessor (the guy who had the job before me) and his wife. We all had a really nice time grilling food, talking, and playing games. I was also able to meet up with a few different friends in Shinjuku and Shibuya (both places are different parts of Tokyo) during the weekend, so it was fun! Tomorrow, I have work and then, after work, a belated welcome party with my co-workers in the English department of my base school (the one that I teach at three days a week, instead of just one day a week). Then, this weekend is another three day weekend. Friday is Autumnal Equinox Day, so everyone gets another day off. I'm looking forward to it!
