New Beginnings!

I've made it to Japan! I flew out of O'Hare early Saturday afternoon and made it to Japan fourteen hours later. I then stayed for three nights and two days at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku (a part of Tokyo), where JET orientation was being held. It was two very long days of all day panels, planning, and meetings. It was pretty exhausting because everyone was so busy and jetlagged. I did get to meet a bunch of cool new people though, as well as seeing one of my friends I made during my previous time studying abroad in Japan.

Today, I arrived in Saitama! There was a small ceremony in the morning where all of the Saitama JET participants were introduced to staff from our new schools. I met Akiko-sensei, the teacher that I'll be mainly working with, as well as two other staff from the school. They then drove me to my main high school. I got to take a school tour, get introduced to a few of the other teachers, and then meet a few of the students who were around the school (even though it's summer break, there are still club activities at the school). Everyone has been so nice to me so far! I think it's going do be a great experience! Then, Akiko-sensei and my JET predecessor (the guy who's place I'm taking in the JET Program) were nice enough to take me to my new apartment and to help me with lots of shopping. The apartment is a bit on the small side, but it's nice. It'll post some pictures of it after I have a chance to get everything organized. It's very messy right now because I'm too tired to put a lot of my stuff away right now. I ended my night by having a sushi dinner with Hasegawa-sensei and my predecessor. Today has been quite good, but very tiring.

I'm off to bed, but hopefully I'll be able to update with more news soon!
